Also, by changing the focus of the blog from strictly travel, I feel more comfortable sharing things that are just random thoughts and some off-the-wall insights of life as I see it...which can sometimes be a pretty warped place to come from.
For starters, I feel comfortable confessing that one of my guilty pleasures is the whole Kardashian thing. I can't explain it. It's almost like a train wreck, only you're not looking for blood or gore or anything like that. You're looking at a matriarchal family whose primary family gender is female and with the exception of *one* penis, have managed to destroy almost all the men they claim so much to love.
First, let me state plainly and clearly that I'm not referring to Caitlyn's change as being anything less than someone finally finding happiness through the darkness of a nightmare. A huge part of that nightmare was the woman she was married to. The treatment she received at the end of the edited versions of Keeping Up shows there was never respect. And I think that's where my first recognition of how much I despised Kris, the "momager", became evident to me. Hell, she's a producer or executive producer of the show, she could have at least spared Caitlyn the public humiliations suffered in real life from the editing process. But no, she chose to humiliate her husband on national TV. Her choices were despicable and clearly self-serving only. So yeah, Caitlyn is a victim too.
Buuuuuuut, and this is a big but (and I don't mean Kim's) Caitlyn will now have her day. Her own show will begin this weekend and I already have my DVR set to record. You know, yes, the whole transition process is hugely interesting, but that's such a small part of why I'm already a fan of the show. My real goal in watching will be to see Caitlyn happy for a change. Happy and able to speak her mind without Kris being ... errrr, the words I want to use but won't ... without Kris being Kris. So kudos Caitlyn, grab your happiness, have your say and live the life you were meant for.
But let's look at the roster...Rob, the elusive brother. Even when he's made clear he wants to be left out of the public eye, that doesn't stop Kris from filming an intervention from his sister's viewpoint. Or filming herself having argumentative telephone conversations with him portraying him as a whiney spoiled man-baby. How is that keeping him out of the public eye? For that matter, how is that protecting your child's best interests?! Sure, people wonder what he's up to from time to time, but he was never an attention whore, so...there ya go. The girls are your money-makers, Kris. Leave Rob alone before he crawls so far into a hole that he won't be able to dig himself out - once the cameras go away and he decides he wants to come out again, that is.
Poor Lamar and Khloe. And I'm sincere in this part. I'm completely convinced there was very deep love there, and probably still is. But with Lamar's pre-existing addictions and other emotional issues relating to families, there were two-strikes against him. Add to that the fishbowl of the Kardashian-related lifestyle and you can see how Khloe deciding to shy away from the show for a while there was something done to protect her husband and marriage. It's really sad that it was too little too late. I still have hopes that Lamar gets a grip on his demons and enjoys a great future. Just do him a favor should it be with Khloe, and keep him off the freakin' show. It's not a healthy place for him to be.
As for Scott, wow...the Lord never had a chance at all. Kourtney is so singularly focused that she couldn't see the forest through the trees. Granted, there was a time where Scott was a complete and total dick. But she made choices IN that knowledge. She chose to distain him for his history and then make no effort to see when her partner, the father of her two (now three children) is at the cliff's edge. He was doing well for quite a while there. But instead of getting the focus, comfort and time to mourn his tremendous loss in both his parents; instead she decided to add another child to the equation after knowing how he felt about more children after the second... Yeah, I know. that was a mouthful. But truly if you watch the show and you're in my head, Scott got it right that time he called himself a "sperm donor". Regardless of his mental health, she wanted that sperm and Scott can be damned!
Now for the penis that has a shot of actually staying sane and not have his connection to the Kardashian's a sad and emasculating existence is Kanye. Of course they hadda step on the other Chris (or was his spelled with a "K" also?) to get there, but he should count his blessings for the bullet he dodged.
Random, right?
