Our original plans for the night we did Tappanyaki was to dine in the Epic Restaurant with our friends Betty, Hameed, Steve and John. But the more I thought about it, the less appealing it sounded to me. I mean we were starting the evening off at a private party in Posh, then we were having pirate photos taken by the ship's photographer in our suite to be followed by...the very quiet and elegant Epic Restaurant? It just sounded like a letdown. So with everyone's permission, I changed our dinner reservations to Tappanyaki.
Well, even before we were seated we knew that this tappan experience was going to be way different from our land-based ones. This is not to say that the chefs at our local tappan places don't work very hard and try to entertain, but it's clear that it is WORK for them and the tricks get tired when the chefs are tired too. So NOT the case on Norwegian Cruise Line's Tappanyaki Restaurant!
The energy level was nearing "10" and the chefs showed us how much they enjoyed doing their tricks and jokes. There were actually times when the majority of the patrons were all singing or clapping along with their high-octane performances. Sure, some of the tricks were old ones, but who cared when the guy doing it was so energetic and enthusiastic about performing them?
Using utensils and salt/pepper shakers for percussion isn't new by any stretch, but when they start singing different songs and they get their table to sing along?! Gimme a break! The fun level was off-the-chart. And yanno what else? The food was great too!
So, next Norwegian Cruise Line sailing you take, consider reserving Tappanyaki and prepare for a great show with dinner!
